Project Mithlond EP1: Jeep ZJ Door Wiring Harness Part 1

Project Mithlond EP1: Jeep ZJ Door Wiring Harness Part 1

I’ve had my Jeep ZJ for a decade, and over time a few things have failed relating to the wiring. For the most part, this was limited to the passenger power lock and the rear driver power window malfunctioning, but those were manageable or easy to ignore. After the glass broke on the rear driver door, I thought it was a good opportunity to debug some of my existing wiring problems.

Door Harness: The broken red wire sends power to the rear driver window switch.

After much debugging, I discovered that the driver front door wiring harness was the culprit. One of the wires to the rear driver window switch was broken. I guess that would do it. Also, many of the other wires in the harness had cracking insulation. At the time, I decided it wasn’t important as I had a bunch of leaks to track down and fix, so I shelved the project.

However, 6 months later, ALL of the power windows became unreliable or stopped working completely, so it was clear I had some work to do. In the featured video, I uninstall the driver front door wiring harness, splice in new wires to the harness, and wrap everything up to install. If I was successful or not, well, we’ll find out!
